Kris Sowerby- Graphic Design Research

With Kris Sowerby, I struggled to find his type appealing and actually found most of his work rather bland and boring because of the simplicity in his type, it didn't encourage me to look twice but eventually I did find one type font that made me want to look again. The 'LOVE' font I found was rather creative and reminded me of the dark but playful styles much like Tim Burtons because of his use of light and dark. The design also brings to mind the idea of a ball of wool, being bundled up in warms and soft fabric.

Wim Crouwell - Graphic Design Research

Crouwel’s work with grids and type is rigid yet playful, and never stiff.  I like the idea of regularity vs. chaos as a design quality and the competing colours, yellow and purple, which are often debated over the fact whether the two can conincide but in my opinion, it works. I feel that the colours have a vivid and futurist style which doesn't usaully appeal to me but in this cirtumstance, it does and in some way, I find it rather inspiring.

Graphic Design Research - Alan Fletcher

In Alan Fletcher's style of Fonts, Typography and Graphic Design, he expresses a spirit of wit and a strong visual style. His pieces I find are full of humour, elegance and in away inspiring as all of this work continues to keep up this theme whilst still creating oringality in each other new design thus leading me to beleive he had a natural love for his work.

With this particular Typography, I found that is screamed creativity and fun with is beliberate disfunction expressed through collage like arrangement, displayed in away that suggests a struggle for 'balance'. I also find the colour theme draws your attention and appeals to people with it elegant balance of tone.

Graphic Designers - Stephan Sagmeister

Stephan Sagmeister is a graphic designer how has worked with many major brands such as Levi Strauss &Co jean designer.Sagmeister isolated the Levi Strauss & Co logo diplayed on the companies products, he presents its basic shape and by using a range of different sized circles to create the natural imagery of a fly. The Button fly poster depicts a regular housefly in high resolution detail.
The poster is printed with special printing techniques: The background is a dark silver and the button graphics are foil stamped with an eye catching and extravagant rainbow foil which I find appealing. I also like the orginality of using the design of the jean button (the most attractive but often undervalued part of the product, in my opinion) and transformed in to the central object that is recognisable to all who are familiar to the brand whilst also pulling in more new attention.

Nokia Pure - Dalton Maag

Designer of the Year - Graphics, Dalton Maag , 2012 for designing the new font for Nokia in aid to transform Nokia's visual identity and a new generation of phones that is 'completely free of arrogance'. Though I am aware that the simplicity of the font is deliberate so that the symbols can be recognisable by all, small or largely displayed, but I don't particularily find his style exciting and overall, I find it rather neutral in style and colour scheme.

Si Scott - Insect (Graphic Design Artist)

Si Scott made his naem with baroque combinations of type and image, but his 3D paper insects have taken his work in new directions.
Here, I tried to interprate the energy and intricate lay out of Scott's workk while expressing the delicacy and the danger portrayed in the sharp , flowing lines in his work.

Si Scott's has worked with many well known clients such as 'Penguin Books', 'Coco Cola', 'Orange', 'Adidas' and 'Converse. He is pieces are hand drawn and crafted whikst also rendering his hnad drawn creations (2D) in to 3D perspectives.

Joseph Lamsin - Jewels of the Sea

Mathew Joseph Lamsin is a jeweller I come across a lot during recent years in Western Cornwall and has become a highly efficient and successful designer in the past 5 years, each piece having a similar theme and technique yet achieving a completely unique and completely different appearance. Not one of his collections of rings, necklaces or earrings is the same. Lamsin’s designs as truly unique and one of a kind and that’s what makes the piece stand out for me, making each individual piece all the more special and valuable (in the sentiment and the physical sense).
His ranges consists of three main collections; Marazion, Sennon and Newlyn, all places that have inspired him from childhood and still continues to do so. Mathew had a passion for drawing and making things from a young age, and having always lived in Cornwall with the beach as his playground, the sea has always been the major source of his inspiration. The coastal environment and lifestyle brought form Mathew’s outlook on life to which I can relate to as I find most of my work has, in one way or another, been influenced by since a young age. When Mathew decided to set up his own jewellery brand he wanted to express these feelings through the jewellery, in the hope that other people could connect with emotion behind it.
The technique behind his launched collections consist heating 18ct gold and sterling silver to molten and, alternatively to creating moulds, he pours in to sea water collected from the three places named to create organic, natural water like textures and shapes. Each design is purposely designed to imitate water ‘in action’, to express the embodied liveliness and energetic vibrancy of the sea. And with the fascinating rarity and uniqueness of each of his designs, I find even more disheartening that his jewellery is all the more expensive and is unaffordable to such potential customers as me.
