'Fresh Paint' Take 2

'The Sequential Image' - My Proposal

Flora and Fauna
I aim to create a sequence of images that will illustrate the flora and fauna of my immediate outdoor environment. I want to approach this project with a magpie tactic. Sketching and doodling plants and animals in their natural habitat.
I will work in a range of medias; Line drawings, watercolour, silhouette and texture collage (which I favour for its graphic quality). I also aim to produce a series of expressive collagraph and lino prints, to demonstrate character and rustic setting with strong composition. By the end of the project I will hopefully have produced a number of pieces featuring different floral and animal habitats with narrative; from bird frolicking in a tree to snails braving the long stretch of patio despite the fear of nearby birds.
Mark Hearld and Julia McKenzie, who are both print makers and collage fanatics, are a key influence to my idea as their method of work expresses a love for the English Countryside and for illustrating the adventure and freedom within Wild life. Like these artists, I want to encourage people, children to adults, to get out of their own habitats and look beyond to that of others in the wild.

'Fresh Paint' Windows 8 - Digital Finger Paintings

Fresh Paint is a digital method of painting much like IPad drawings (if just a bit more difficult and limited) and is just as fun. Here are a few of my simplistic sketch's, mainly figurative and facial.

'The Sequential Image'

The sequential image is a four week illustration project which requires I propose, research, develop and complete a visual sequence that communicates an idea or concept in a clearly readble sequential way.

This could mean I could use:
* Cartoon Strip
*Animation
*Narrative
* Books

As this is my last set breid from College, i feel that I'd best experiment with as much idea making and methods as possible, as well as keep in mind that what I produce now will indefinitely effect the how I produce my last project I will set for myself.

As the majority of the artist that have impacted me in the past 5 months, I feel my subject (or storyline) should lean towards the Flora And Fauna of my immediate surroundings. I possibly could also introduce architecture that interests me.

I do plan to incorperate characters from my previous project, 'Character Building', such as my Grumpy Chicken but I will focuses on designing new ones, such as;

*Snails
*Birds
*Foxes
*Cats

Any thing from my immediate envirnment and observation.

Wish me Luck!

Ed Kluz - Theory

  'A Norwich Prospect'

Ed Kluz has utilized excess textured coloured prints, collaged to create a slightly of balanced, central composition of a historical landscape.

Ed Specialises in transforming the imagery of run down, historical architecture, in to expressive and colourful landscapes.

I enjoy most about Ed's work, is the expressive mark making and home made craft style in his evocative imagery.

Mark Hearlds - Theory

Mark Hearld is a British Print maker and member of the St Jude's Print Group.

He focuses the majority of his work on the flora and fauna of his immediate surrounding; the country side.

Combines collage with print.

What I like enjoy most about Mark's work is the rustic and expressive makes he makes and the evoking colours which set the mood; In this picture winter cool.

Sarah McMenemy - Theory

'London' By Sarah McMenemy

A 1.5 metre concertina-stylebook, featuring the architectural landmarks of London.

Sarah specialised in Children book Illustration and architectural  design (since the a young age she drew colourful pictures of peoples houses before the would move, which was often as London is pretty pricy).

She brings elegance and informality with her line drawings and text.

The composition and lay out is set like a skyline.

'Not only is this a glorious way to visit London in a virtual manner, it's also a stunning pop-up art installation'

Who doesn't like playing with Positive & Negative Effects, aye?

During the Cover design ... exploration thingy... I again got playing with the printer effects and got over excited with the positive and negative effects. But on the bright side, I produced a few beautiful imagery. Here are a couple from observational drawings of natural imagery.

Recipe Illustration!

With a lot of experimentations with different type and media (already posted through 'Typography), and a catastrophic two weeks of snow, I finally finished my recipe piece thanks to the Printing workshop at college! I used a collage of orange strips and red tissue paper to create a mood of heat and the idea of temperature, then printed with a Collagraph plate.

I do apologise for the low quality. Due to another burst of snow, I am unable to scan them but I hope you get the gist of the design idea (basing the design on the grill or barbeque cooking of salmon).

The Recipe: Teriyaki Salmon
*1/2 tsp. Crushed Ginger
*1/2 tap.Crushed Garlic
*2 tbsp. Soy Sauce
*2 tbsp. Maple Syrup (or Honey)
*2 Salmon Fillets

1. Mixed all together and Marinate for 1- 4 hours
2. Cook under the grill for 10-15 minutes
3. Serve with rice, noodles, veg or what ever.

Enjoy.

Julia McKenzie: Theory

 ‘Garden’  February 2012 28cmx28cm
A spring coloured themed, centralised composition featuring the flora and fauna of the British countryside.
A layers composition, using circular cut shapes of maps and bright and bold print.
Silhouettes and line drawings are collaged together, each one individuals repetition ally drawn in practise through observation.
The pieces is very light in colour and by how she has mounted the design on a white, large spaced card.
There is a sense of balance to how Julia has locked the colours together.
By using the lines in maps, she has created a sense of texture.

Rob Ryan: Theory

We had every thing’  October 2012
Rob arrangement is centralised; the theme of German romance with in the centre of the heart and surrounded within the flora and fauna of the countryside, much like a home or sanctuary.
He has cut this piece on large, smooth, thin paper (used for printing the Bible) and later sprays the cut with bold blood red aerosol.
Rob uses a lot of repetition with shapes and figure such as the birds and flowers. Rob describes the reasoning behind this as a love of shape  and figurative forms thus there being no need for him to keep on changing he depicts as perfect.
There is sense of symmetry, though a tad bit off balance as Rob tried to avoid measuring things out, as the branches and heart are almost mirror in form and length.
